Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of post-secondary education services focused on providing higher access to higher education, announced today that its University of the Rockies, a graduate school specializing in psychology programs at the master's and doctoral levels, will now offer a specialization in Educational Leadership for students working toward a Master of Arts in Psychology or a Doctor of Psychology degree.
The specialization was developed, in part, due to the growing demand within organizations for professionals with expertise in distance learning, adult education, and instructional systems design.
Some of the many positions that graduates with a specialization in Educational Leadership might pursue include, among others, Chief Learning Officer, Director of Training, Director of Education, VP of Learning/Employee Development, Curriculum Manager, and VP/Director of Instructional Design.
"As the demand for qualified Chief Learning Officers and similarly-titled positions grows, our graduates will be well positioned to seek those opportunities," said Dr. Stephen Kirkpatrick, dean of the School of Organizational Leadership for University of the Rockies. "The program emphasizes leading the planning and implementation of educational and training initiatives and programs, as a business or organizational strategy, to improve overall performance."
The specialization in Educational Leadership is currently available online and on campus through University of the Rockies. It is not intended to prepare students for licensure as professional counselors, and does not lead to licensure. Students should check applicable laws in the state in which they reside and work to determine requirements for licensure.
This specialization does not target those who wish to earn state certifications as public educational administrators, such as school principals or district superintendents. Programs training educators for those positions require approval by each individual state's department of education, a designation that this program does not have and will not seek to have in any state.
