Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of postsecondary education services focused on providing higher access to higher education, congratulates the five spouses of U.S. military service members who have been awarded scholarships by Bridgepoint's Ashford University and Cox Communications. These full-tuition scholarships will help the unsung partners of American fighting men and women fulfill their educational goals, goals that may have been set aside when life as a military spouse became their primary responsibility.
The 2010 Homefront Heroes recipients are Danielle Brown, Temecula; Sheila Cabuco Butler, Chula Vista; Matthew Day-Reyes, Oceanside; Courtney Garcia, El Cajon; and Elizabeth Steinke, San Marcos. Four of the five spouses are U.S. Marines; Steinke's husband is in the Navy. The scholarship recipients were selected from a field of 120 applicants. The process involved submitting an essay about being married to the military, its effects on their life, and how they believed an Ashford University degree would enhance their plans for the future.
Presented by Cox Communications, the Ashford University Homefront Heroes scholarships were meant to give back to those who give so much. One of Ashford University's three pillars of philanthropy is to support the military and, with these scholarships, Cox Communications has joined Ashford in that effort.
