Japanese Disaster Relief Nets More Than $25,000 in Donations from Bridgepoint Education
Individual gifts matched one-to-one by Bridgepoint Education

As the impact of Japan’s Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami continue to resonate, the needs of afflicted Japanese citizens remain urgent. The employees of Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) were moved to assist the victims of this disaster and donated $12,687.88 to the American Red Cross. Bridgepoint matched those donations, resulting in a $25,375.76 donation to victims of the tragedy.

“Our Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University, and University of the Rockies employees were eager to help our Pacific Rim neighbors,” said Shari Rodriguez, Bridgepoint’s associate vice president of Public Relations. “Our donations will join those from many generous Americans and will help those who’ve suffered so greatly in Japan’s quake-affected regions.”

One month since the March 11 Tōhoku earthquake, the island nation is still reeling. Many parts of Japan were affected by the magnitude 9.0 quake and its marauding wave, which has been measured to have crested over 120 feet and scoured the earth up to six miles inland. Approximately 4.4 million homes lost electricity and 1.5 million were left without water. Brutal aftershocks still occur regularly, but the process of protecting Japanese survivors goes on.

The donations from the faculty and staff of Ashford University, University of the Rockies and Bridgepoint Education will be directed to the Japanese Red Cross to provide emergency support, including medical services, food relief, volunteer logistics and hundreds of thousands of blankets.
