Throughout the month of April, Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) focused its attention on raising money for charity as part of the company’s second annual United Way/CHAD campaign. By month’s end, Bridgepoint Education and its employees generated $113,385 for United Way and the Combined Health Agencies.
Funds were raised through several different initiatives. Employees were asked to make donations or sign up to have a portion of their paychecks earmarked for United Way/CHAD donations. Employee contributions during the month of April totaled $58,089.
As an incentive to encourage employees to donate, Bridgepoint Education pledged to match all employee donations up to $50,000. Since Bridgepoint employees exceeded the fundraising goal, Bridgepoint Education made a $50,000 contribution to United Way/CHAD that will go to the Monarch School, a San Diego school that educates children who are homeless or at risk.
In addition, fundraising events were held at each of Bridgepoint Education’s three San Diego locations. All of the events were conceived and staged by participants in Bridgepoint Education’s Future Leaders Program. The program helps to develop the strengths of Bridgepoint Education employees and includes a philanthropic component that underscores Bridgepoint Education’s strong emphasis on community involvement. At the three fundraising events, an additional $5,296 was generated for United Way/CHAD.
“The strong response we received during the United Way/CHAD campaign highlights the caring nature of the employees here at Bridgepoint Education,” said Jennifer Love Bruce, Bridgepoint Education’s director of community relations. “Once again, Bridgepoint employees stepped up to support local and national organizations that make a positive impact on our communities.”
A unique feature of a United Way/CHAD campaign is that a wide variety of local and national organizations benefit. When a donor gives $50 or more to United Way, he or she can designate any 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to receive the money. Thus, Bridgepoint Education employees were able to support numerous charitable organizations with their United Way/CHAD donations.
