Bridgepoint Education (NYSE: BPI) has introduced the Android™ version of its Ashford Mobile and Rockies Mobile classroom apps. These proprietary mobile applications deliver an extensive online educational interface to students and faculty alike, plus essential campus information. With the release of these new apps, Android™ fans can join iPhone users in the digital classroom at Ashford University and University of the Rockies.
Ashford Mobile and Rockies Mobile are full-spectrum teaching applications designed to provide students and teachers in-depth integration with the Ashford University and University of the Rockies' online learning environments. Both schools are Bridgepoint Education academic institutions and the apps were developed in-house.
"I'm very proud of the way our product development team and the Learning Resources and Publishing department focused themselves to deliver the Android™ apps to our students," stated Dana LaFleur, Bridgepoint's director of learning architecture. "Student satisfaction is a high priority for us; the demand for Android™ versions of Ashford and Rockies Mobile was clear."
Following the successful release of Ashford Mobile and Rockies Mobile for the iPhone, students using Android™-powered smart-phones clamored for the same digital classroom access for their mobile devices. Bridgepoint's product development team took advantage of Android's ready network of Java-based tools to answer that demand, quickly delivering an Android™ version of Ashford Mobile and Rockies Mobile to students and instructors.
Significant testing was done with a large number of Android™-powered devices to ensure the apps' stability, exposing Ashford Mobile and Rockies Mobile to as many software and hardware combinations as possible. Both student and faculty-specific Android™-based apps are available for download through Android™ Market as of today, with support for Android™ systems running 2.1 "Eclair" and up.
