Some San Diego school children and teachers got a big surprise as they arrived at school this morning thanks to employees of Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI). More than 200 employees and their families spent all day Saturday giving John Marshall Elementary School an extreme school makeover.
“While covering two of our main social responsibility focus areas – improving education and developing youth – this was a great opportunity for employees to join together and donate their time for a worthy cause,” said Andrew Clark, Bridgepoint Education’s chief executive officer. “Our company thrives on giving and maintaining our commitment to making a difference in the San Diego community.”
Working with the United We Paint Coalition, Bridgepoint Education provided all of the paint, ladders, supplies and volunteers to complete the job. The elementary school, located at 3550 Altadena Avenue in Chollas Creek, has not received a complete beautification in nearly two decades. The exteriors of 17 classrooms were painted, totaling 2,340 manpower hours. According to United We Paint, professional painters estimated the job to cost about $90,000 if it had been contracted out.
“The makeover is astounding. I am so thankful to Bridgepoint Education for helping to make our great school a more inviting environment for children to be inspired,” said Staci Monreal, principal at John Marshall Elementary School. “I am both impressed and grateful for their commitment to youth, education and community.”
