Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of innovative solutions that advance learning, will welcome the University of Texas Longhorns and the University of California Golden Bears to San Diego for this month’s 34th annual Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl.
“It’s exciting to have Texas and Cal going head to head at the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl,” said Mark Neville, associate executive director of the 2011 Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl. “These teams have a great history – San Diegans and national television viewers are in for a spectacular game.”
This year’s Holiday Bowl kicks off at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 28. Bridgepoint Education will donate one dollar from each ticket sold for the bowl game – to be held at San Diego’s 70,000-plus seat Qualcomm Stadium – to Freedom Station. The local non-profit organization helps transition injured service members back into civilian life by providing temporary lodging facilities, educational guidance, counseling, physical therapy and career opportunities to the nation’s injured and disabled military heroes who have been medically retired or discharged.
The Texas Longhorns are one of the most storied programs in college football. Steeped in rich gridiron tradition, the 7-5 Longhorns will arrive in San Diego as the Big 12 leader in total defense. On offense, the Longhorns average 404 yards per game and nearly 30 points per game.
The Cal Golden Bears will make their third appearance in the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl. The Golden Bears finished the regular season 7-5. Cal features the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the year, linebacker Mychal Kendricks.
