On Saturday, March 3, nearly 6,000 San Diegans packed the streets surrounding Balboa Park for the 2nd Annual Finish Chelsea’s Run 5K Run/Walk. Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of innovative solutions that advance learning, was the Platinum sponsor of the run, which raised money for Chelsea’s Light Foundation’s Scholarship Fund to award scholarships to college-bound teens in San Diego County.
“The overwhelming show of support among members of the San Diego community for such a great cause was remarkable,” said Bridgepoint Education’s chief executive officer Andrew Clark, who participated in the run. “Helping San Diego’s youth enrich their lives by continuing their education is a passion, commitment and pillar of our organization.”
The event is named after Chelsea King, the Poway teen who disappeared during a run at Rancho Bernardo Community Park two years ago. Sunflowers, Chelsea’s favorite flower, adorned the 3.1-mile event path, which started at 6th Avenue and Quince. Participants received a “running bib” containing wildflower seeds to be planted and grown in Chelsea’s honor.
