Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE:BPI), a provider of postsecondary education services, has appointed Robert Wernli Jr. to the position of vice president and senior corporate attorney.  Reporting to Diane Thompson, senior vice president and general counsel, Wernli will be providing legal support for Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) compliance matters, corporate governance issues and other transactional projects.

According to Thompson, "Wernli will also assist in the development of corporate governance documentation and other standard processes and procedures.  His wealth of experience and commitment to sound judgment and ethical business practices made him an excellent candidate for this position, and we look forward to working with him in this capacity,” she added.

Before coming to Bridgepoint, Wernli was a senior associate in the Public Companies/Securities and Corporate Finance Group at Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton LLP.  Instrumental in numerous mergers, acquisitions and securities offerings - including Bridgepoint Education’s initial public offering - Wernli also provided guidance on corporate and securities law, with particular focus on SEC reporting, Sarbanes-Oxley and other compliance matters.  Earlier in his career, Wernli also served as an associate on the Business and Technology team at Procopio, Cory, Hargreaves & Savitch LLP.

Wernli holds a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law, where he graduated magna cum laude.  He earned his B.A. in Political Science, cum laude, from the University of California, San Diego.
