A team from Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of innovative solutions that advance learning, took home the first place trophy in the San Diego Council on Literacy’s “The Bee.” The team, named “B for Bridgepoint,” won by correctly spelling the word “dihedral.” The third annual event, aimed at helping to raise awareness of literacy efforts in San Diego County, was held on Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Hall of Champions in Balboa Park.
“This event was successful in every regard because of the sponsors, the players, and the attendees,” said Jose Cruz, chief executive office of the San Diego Council on Literacy. “Bridgepoint Education, once again, took a lead role in supporting our cause generously and enthusiastically. And, as always, the Bridgepoint Education team came ready to play.”
The Bee, benefitting the San Diego Council on Literacy and its 26 affiliated literacy programs, is a spelling competition that consists of teams of three competing against teams from other companies, schools, and organizations in San Diego. The mission of the literacy council is to unify the community for greater literacy through leadership, advocacy, and resources. Each year, more than 170,000 individuals of all ages receive no-cost literacy services in San Diego.
Joining Bridgepoint Education as The Bee’s major sponsors were Ashford University, U.S. Bank, Petco, U-T San Diego, Kaiser Permanente, San Diego Community College District, and Viejas.
