Nearly 200 employees from Bridgepoint Education and one of its academic institutions, Ashford University, spent the morning of Saturday, Sept. 14, cleaning up San Diego’s Balboa Park. The effort to beautify the city’s special historic landmark was part of the organization’s “Heroes Day,” a biannual employee volunteer event.
“We appreciate Bridgepoint Education’s willingness to support our local community by engaging their employees in meaningful volunteer service with I Love a Clean San Diego,” said Pauline Martinson, executive director at I Love a Clean San Diego.
The volunteers split into several groups designated to specific tasks, including tidying up the park’s Florida Canyon and stenciling storm drains. As a result of the beautification effort, more than 1,000 pounds of trash was collected and removed from the park.
“We were thrilled to partner with I Love a Clean San Diego to help improve one of the city’s most treasured landmarks,” said Andrew Clark, chief executive officer at Bridgepoint Education.
“At Bridgepoint, giving back to the community is an integral part of who we are. Each year, our organization continues to make a big impact on the communities we serve because of the volunteer efforts of our great employees.”
Back in April, nearly 300 employees descended on the San Diego River Garden in East Mission Valley to remove weeds and debris, repair fences, mulch and water plant beds, and create nature trails as part of the organization’s spring Heroes Day.
