To celebrate National Volunteer Month, Bridgepoint Education is hosting Heroes Day, an organization-wide volunteer event, on Saturday, April 16.
Employees from Bridgepoint Education and its two educational institutions, Ashford University and University of the Rockies, will take part in volunteer efforts in San Diego, Denver, and Clinton, Iowa. Students and alumni from the two universities will also participate in the event, creating a volunteer workforce of hundreds of people.
“At Bridgepoint Education, we are committed to enriching lives and the communities we serve,” said Andrew Clark, Bridgepoint’s chief executive officer. “This is a great opportunity for us to give back to the community where we live and work by donating our time, energy, and resources.”
In San Diego, Bridgepoint will collaborate with the San Diego Park and Recreation Department on their Week of Service initiative. Volunteers will help beautify the trails of Juniper Canyon at 1377 Delevan Drive, San Diego, Ca. 92104. Bridgepoint employees will work alongside Ashford employees and Ashford students to plant native plants and to pick up trash around the area.
The San Diego Heroes Day event will begin with welcome remarks from Bridgepoint’s Executive Vice President of External Affairs/Chief Academic Officer Dr. Jane McAuliffe, Ashford University President Dr. Richard Pattenaude, San Diego City Councilmember Todd Gloria, Supervising Recreation Specialist Kathy Castello, Park and Recreation Department Director Herman Parker, and Senior Park Ranger Jason Allen.
In Denver, employees from Bridgepoint, Ashford, and University of the Rockies will partner with the Denver Public School Foundation to make over Harrington Elementary School. Volunteers will garden and paint specific exterior areas outside of the school, while indoor volunteer activities will include painting murals and shelving books in the school’s library. In addition, employees who are unable to make the Harrington Elementary School volunteer event will have an opportunity to put together toiletry bags that will be given to the homeless in the Denver area.
In Clinton, Iowa, Ashford students and Ashford employees will come together for a project to remove trash from a stretch of Mill Creek Parkway near Ashford’s Iowa Online Center.
This weekend’s events will mark the 11th Heroes Day celebrated by Bridgepoint Education. Held bi-annually, past Heroes Day events have focused on service projects such as cleaning Balboa Park in San Diego, revitalizing the Mary Fay Pendleton School on Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton, refurbishing the Mi Casa Resource Center in Denver, sorting food items at the San Diego Food Bank, and many other activities to improve local communities.
