Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) announced today that Ashford University has introduced two new online bachelor's degree programs: a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Public Policy and a Bachelor of Arts in English Language Learner Studies.
The Education and Public Policy degree program prepares students for careers in educational organizations, government, community development, public service, non-profit organizations, and philanthropy.
"Through civic involvement and participation in educational institutions, these graduates will meet the growing demand for skilled and effective policy experts," Dr. Joen Rottler, dean of the College of Education, said. "Considering that the U.S. government is the world's single largest employer, the market for graduates with degrees in Education and Public Policy is significant."
The English Language Learner Studies degree program provides graduates with an understanding of language theory, language analysis and language patterning. Courses are grounded in English language development, National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education, and Structured English Immersion standards.
"In this time of increasing globalization, we are proud to offer a degree program designed to assist educators and others in instructing children and adults in the English language," Dr. Rottler said. As a career, English Language Learner Studies graduates will likely develop training programs for businesses, assess English proficiency, or work for the government.
Both new degree programs are currently available online at Ashford University. They have been approved by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools as postsecondary academic degree programs. They do not include any additional professional licensures or certifications.
