Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE:BPI), a provider of postsecondary education services focused on providing higher access to higher education, hosted two back-to-back blood drives last week on behalf of the San Diego Blood Bank, an independent blood center serving some 50 hospitals in the Southern California region.  In all, nearly 150 employees were seen and 118 units of blood were collected.

“Those units of blood have since been processed and are already in the local hospitals touching lives – 236 lives, to be exact,” said the San Diego Blood Bank’s Marno Miller.

The first event took place on Monday, August 3, from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Bridgepoint Education’s Sabre Springs facility, located at 13480 Evening Creek Dr. North in San Diego, CA.  The second event was held Tuesday, August 4, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bridgepoint Education’s Kearny Mesa office, located at 8620 Spectrum Center Boulevard - also in San Diego. 

“We had quite a turnout!  It was wonderful to see so many employees lined up for these events, volunteering their time to provide a much-needed resource for those in need,” said Kendra Myers, Bridgepoint Education’s associate vice president of Human Resources.

In addition to helping boost the region’s limited blood supply, the success of Bridgepoint Education’s past blood drives has qualified the company for participation in a local “Corporate Challenge Opportunity” competition.  Sponsored by Cox Communications, the competition runs from August 1 through September 18 and challenges San Diego-area companies to host blood drives with the goal of having the highest percentage of employee blood donations in the region.
