Bridgepoint Education Supports U.S. Servicemembers at Camp Pendleton Mud Run

Bridgepoint Education (NYSE:BPI), a provider of postsecondary education services, was a proud participant in the world-famous Camp Pendleton Mud Run on Saturday, June 6. The annual event raises money for the Marine Corps Community Services, which funds quality-of-life programs for members of the U.S. armed forces and their families.

Bridgepoint Education fielded a team of five competitors who took part in the grueling Mud Run. The members of “Team BPI” were chief executive officer Andrew Clark, senior vice president/chief admissions officer Chris Spohn, senior vice president/chief information officer Tom Ashbrook, senior software developer Ben Sullins and board member Ryan Craig.

The Mud Run, held at Lake O’Neill on the Camp Pendleton Marine Base in north San Diego County, covers a 10-kilometer course designed to test the strength and endurance of participants. The course features hills, tire obstacles, river crossings, two five-foot walls, a tunnel crawl, a slippery hill climb and one final 30-foot mud pit. All members of each five-person team must complete the course together under the two-hour time limit.

Team BPI excelled at the Mud Run, finishing the course in one hour and seven minutes. That result placed the team fourth in the corporate team division and 22nd among all teams. This was the second consecutive year that Bridgepoint Education fielded a team for the Mud Run. Team BPI shaved three minutes off of their time from last year’s race.

“All of us on Team BPI had a great time participating in the Mud Run,” said Ashbrook. “But the best part of the experience was knowing that we were helping to give back to our troops and their families who sacrifice so much to serve our country.”

The Camp Pendleton Mud Run has become a popular event in San Diego. All entry slots into the race were filled back in January, shortly after registration opened. In total, more than 5,000 competitors took part in the Mud Run this year. The Mud Run is just one of several athletic competitions held at Camp Pendleton and open to the public. Collectively known as the Hard Corps Race Series, the competitions all raise money for the Marine Corps Community Services.
