Bridgepoint Education Co-Sponsors Cybersecurity Symposium and Cybersecurity Awards

Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), a provider of postsecondary education services focused on providing higher access to higher education, is a Silver Sponsor for San Diego’s First Annual Cybersecurity Symposium and Awards.

The October 7 symposium was created to share information on cybercrime and protecting digital citizens around the world. The symposium features an international panel of experts, including representatives from Australia, Canada, Egypt, Israel, Malaysia, Mexico and the United States. Participants will share their best practices and suggest ways in which the global online community can work together to defend and protect the world’s cyberspace.

“Bridgepoint Education is excited to be a co-sponsor of San Diego’s First Annual Cybersecurity Symposium and to participate with other local San Diego businesses, federal and state representatives, local law enforcement, and community leaders in the Securing Our eCity initiative,” said Michael Stansbury, vice president of risk management at Bridgepoint Education. “Raising awareness about cyber security is important not only within our businesses, but also in our schools and our families. This event is an excellent example of the San Diego community working together to achieve that.”

The Cybersecurity Symposium is part of the Securing Our eCity initiative. Presented by the San Diego Business Journal and San Diego software security provider ESET, LLC, Securing Our eCity focuses on fostering partnerships to help create an online community that is safe and secure. The initiative brings together consumer advocates, business owners and governmental agencies to raise awareness, offer education, and help individuals and businesses prepare for cybersecurity challenges now and in the future.

“This event is an opportunity to educate, train and collaborate in a fun and informative way, while also recognizing the accomplishments of those that have contributed so much to ensure the San Diego community can be an example of how to provide a safe digital neighborhood for its citizens,” Stansbury said.

Bridgepoint Education is also a co-sponsor of the Cybersecurity Awards, presented at the conclusion of the Cybersecurity Symposium. The awards recognize the most outstanding companies and organizations in San Diego as nominated by their peers in cybersecurity.

The date for the Cybersecurity Symposium and Awards was selected because October was recently designated National Cyber Security Awareness Month by President Barack Obama. In a proclamation, Obama urged all citizens to back up files, keep Internet-surfing children safe, and play an active role in securing cyber networks.
