Bridgepoint Education Volunteers Go Back to School for a Day with Junior Achievement San Diego
More than 50 eager "volunteachers" join 24 classes at Valley Elementary in Poway, Calif.

San Diego-based employees from Bridgepoint Education (NYSE: BPI) and its two academic institutions, Ashford University and University of the Rockies, joined forces with Junior Achievement of San Diego to deliver business knowledge to schoolchildren during a “Teacher for a Day” event on May 18. The event, held at Valley Elementary School in Poway, Calif., was the latest in Bridgepoint’s overarching effort to give back to the community and encourage volunteerism.

Teacher for a Day is a Junior Achievement sponsored elementary school program designed to introduce adult thinking into young students’ education, giving them a taste of career interest, economics, on-the-job thinking and what sort of activity goes into a day in the workplace. Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University, and University of the Rockies volunteers geared their instruction towards each grade level, beginning with a concise self-view for the kindergartners on up to concepts from the nation and the global stage for fifth and sixth graders.

“Junior Achievement’s Teacher for a Day program puts members of the business community in front of curious children and provides them with a picture of the way people think at work,” stated Michelle Savarese, Bridgepoint’s associate vice president of Learning and Development. “Bridgepoint employees showed overwhelming interest in taking part. I applaud their volunteer spirit and their interest in giving back to the community.”

Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University and University of the Rockies have supported Junior Achievement San Diego as a part of the Teacher for a day event for the past three years, working at Valley Elementary, as well as Creekside, Morningview, and Pomerado Elementary Schools.  Bridgepoint and Ashford personnel at the company's new offices in Denver, Colo., have also participated in the Junior Achievement Teacher for a day program, sending 63 Denver-area volunteers to Englewood Middle School and Godsman Elementary School.
