Ashford University, an educational institution owned by Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI), donated $15,000 to the Southern California Division of Operation Homefront through the Homers for Heroes program. Ashford University pledged to donate $2,500 for each home run hit by the San Diego Padres during this season’s Sunday home games and the donation represents a final tally of six home runs. The donation helps provide emergency financial services and other assistance to the families of service members, and to injured American soldiers, marines, airmen and sailors.

“It’s only with fantastic donors like Ashford University that we are able to help relieve service members’ families of financial pressure, so they can focus on the daily stress of what they are going through,” Jay Anderson, president of Operation Homefront of Southern California said. “We rely entirely on these donations, so without them, we couldn’t operate.”

The university’s support of Homers for Heroes is further representation of Ashford’s commitment to the San Diego community and their charitable support of the U.S. military and its constituents.

“Operation Homefront is an outstanding organization committed to improving the lives of service members and their families,” Doug Barling, senior director of military relations at Ashford University said. “We believe it just makes sense to partner with organizations that share our sense of responsibility in helping those who protect this great nation.”
