Bridgepoint Education Sponsors Digital Learning Day
Annual campaign promotes the power of digital learning in K-12 education

On Wednesday, Feb. 6, Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) joined the Alliance for Excellent Education, U.S. secretary of education Arne Duncan, U.S. chief technology officer Todd Park, U.S. representative George Miller (D-CA), nearly 25,000 teachers, as well as millions of students and participants in all 50 states to mark Digital Learning Day. Inaugurated last year, Digital Learning Day is a national campaign to promote digital learning and spotlight successful instructional technology practices in K-12 classrooms across the country.

“Digital Learning Day isn’t about slapping a netbook on top of a textbook,” said Bob Wise, president of the Alliance for Excellent Education and former governor of West Virginia. “It’s about pairing educational innovation with thoughtful planning and great teaching to provide all children with the twenty-first century skills they need in today’s economy.”

Digital Learning Day culminated in a Digital Town Hall that celebrated the potential for digital learning and recognized exceptional examples of schools that are making the successful transition to digital learning. One of the standout schools was Cajon Valley Union School District where U.S. representative Duncan D. Hunter joined the event via telecast. Held in the Newseum in Washington D.C., the Digital Town Hall was streamed live around the world.

Digital Learning Day debuted in 2012 with the purpose of shining a light on the more than one million students who do not complete high school and promoting the thoughtful use of technology to increase student engagement and retention. By connecting districts, schools, teachers, and students through online communities, digital resources and best practices can literally go viral and improve opportunities for students to continue their studies beyond high school.
