Employees of Bridgepoint Education, Ashford University, and University of the Rockies Volunteer Across the Nation for Heroes Day
Biannual event encourages volunteers to give back to their local communities

More than 350 employees, faculty, staff, students, family members, and friends from Bridgepoint Education, Inc. (NYSE: BPI) and its two academic institutions, Ashford University and University of the Rockies spent Saturday, April 26, giving back to the communities they serve. The day was designated “Heroes Day,” a biannual celebration that promotes the benefits of volunteering.

“The hard work and dedication demonstrated by employees this weekend was impressive. It’s evident that our employees really embrace our giving mission and the spirit of enriching lives and improving our communities,” said Andrew Clark, chief executive officer at Bridgepoint Education. “I am proud of the positive impact our organization has had, and will continue to have, on the communities we serve.”

In San Diego, Calif., employees from Bridgepoint Education and Ashford University headed to the Salvation Army Ray & Joan Kroc Center to build 50 new bicycles to donate to local children. Many of these children had never owned a bicycle before and the Bridgepoint and Ashford volunteers were able give these children their first set of wheels.

“Bridgepoint Education's Heroes Day Event truly brought joy to so many families, and specifically children, in The Salvation Army Kroc Center's community,” said Maria Todaro, director of communications & community development for The Salvation Army Kroc Center. “This joy will continue through the summer as dozens of children now have bikes to ride with their friends, giving them an opportunity to be active and play outside. We are grateful for community partnerships like these that offer amazing and fun resources to our families.”

In Clinton, Iowa, home of the Ashford University campus, the Heroes Day focus was on a clean-up campaign. Ashford staff, faculty, and students picked up trash along a three-mile stretch of Millcreek Parkway.

Heroes Day was not just for employees though and Ashford students across the country were invited to participate by volunteering in their own communities as part of Ashford’s S.T.A.R. (Sharing Time and Resources) volunteer program. In San Diego, a group of Ashford students volunteered together at the Payne Family Branch of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater San Diego.

Meanwhile, in Colorado, more than 40 representatives from Ashford University and University of the Rockies volunteered at the Mi Casa Resource Center in Denver. The volunteers helped with landscaping and painted the facility which houses Colorado’s oldest and largest Latino-serving nonprofit organization.
